The large frogs can often be seen perched at the water's edge, or simply floating on the surface, their large air sacs bursting outward when the urge to vocalize comes on strong.
The song of the green frog is one of the most enjoyable sounds of the summer wetlands. The peak of breeding season for the green frog is usually in June to early July, but the frogs will sing occasionally all summer long on these lazy, hot afternoons. The largest common frog found in our area - with the exception of the bullfrog, which I don't consider common - the green frog calls with a song that sounds like the strumming of a banjo string.
